Hī is a fully owned subsidiary of Te Arawa Fisheries. The Te Arawa Fisheries Group manages fisheries assets on behalf of the iwi of Te Arawa. The proceeds are used for the benefit of all Te Arawa descendants.

Our fisheries assets were received in settlement with the Crown under the Maori Fisheries Act 2004. Those assets were transferred to Te Arawa Fisheries in September 2006 by the body responsible for allocation, Te Ohu Kaimoana.

Te Arawa Fisheries is made up of a parent body, Te Kotahitanga o Te Arawa Waka Fisheries Trust Board, and two companies, Te Arawa Fisheries Limited and Te Arawa Fisheries Holding Company Limited.

DR KENNETH CAMERON KENNEDY

Dr Kenneth Cameron Kennedy (BMS, AUT, PhD- Philosophy (hon causa), USA) has many years in education at local, regional and national level, holding senior management and iwi governance positions in tertiary education and Iwi / Hapu Land Trusts and Incorporations.
He is currently Co- Chairperson of Ngāti Rangiteaorere Koromatua Council, Chairperson of Tikitere Trust, Te Maru o Wahiao,and Wahiao Tuhourangi o Whakarewarewa Trust, and Director on Te Puia MACI Management Ltd, Whakarewarewa Joint Trust and Te Kōtahitanga o Te Ārawa Shareholder Trustee and Director on the Te Ārawa Fisheies Commercial Board.

Chris is the Chief Executive of Te Arawa Fisheries and Hī. He has qualifications from leading New Zealand and international business schools and more than 30 years of experience working with Indigenous groups, government agencies and international investors in a variety of roles in New Zealand, and around the world.
His life-long focus has been to help Māori and indigenous groups achieve long-term social and environmental wellbeing through better investment in, and development of, their natural assets.
He is passionate about helping communities shape their sustainable, long-term development and is a champion for growing whānau and rangatahi using commerce and trade as the vehicle to achieving this.
JOE KOUWENHOVEN

The son of Dutch immigrants that came to New Zealand in 1962, Joe’s parents installed in him a moral, loyal, fair and hardworking core – nothing comes from doing nothing.
Joe carried this with him, from when he left school at 16 and started his own business. From working in his family’s retail business from the age of six, seafood was in his DNA. More than 30 years later, Joe has built a business based around greenshell mussels and other seafood products.
From partnerships built with iwi in Aotearoa and joint ventures in Norway, China and Australia, Joe is committed to building the Hī Mussels brand and delivering the premium products to seafood lovers around the world.
